The pace of modern living and the growth of technology means we spend most of our day doing things and very little time just being. In the midst of all our activity, life can seem overwhelming and God may feel far away.
We are becoming less accustomed to times of silence in our daily life and in our busy church communities. Sometimes just the thought of sitting still or being on our own can leave us feeling uncomfortable.
Yet from experience we know it is often when we switch off the gadgets or take time out from all that clamours for our attention that we begin to reconnect with God and remember who we are.

For many people, discovering Christianity’s long, rich tradition of meditation and contemplative silence has revitalised prayer lives that felt stale and helped them find space with God again.
Meeting with others to share times of silent prayer can often make it easier to develop this spiritual discipline than just doing this alone.
