This quote is by John Main, the Benedictine monk who originated the now international organisation that many of you will know as the World Community for Christian Meditation (WCCM). It is taken from Word Into Silence (Darton, Longman and Todd, 1980), 7. This now classic text was the original published teaching about the spiritual discipline of silence that continues to be taught today by WCCM.
