This quote is from Carl Arico's book, A Taste of Silence: A Guide to the Fundamentals of Centering Prayer (Continuum, 1999), 101. This book was updated and re-released by Lantern Books in 2015 and you can find more about this edition here. Fr. Carl Arico is a former Vice President of Contemplative Outreach (see here), which is the organisation that supports the community of those who practice Centering Prayer. Fr Carl is well-known in the community for his regular Q&A slots in the Contemplative Outreach (CO) website and newsletters (see here) - a great source of answering tricky questions about this practice of silence-based prayer! He has been an integral part of CO since being present at the very first Centering Prayer retreat led by Fr Thomas Keating in 1983. Arico has travelled extensively in the USA and internationally as a retreat and workshop leader. You can download and listen to many of his talks here.
